Over the last two decades, NIT Rourkela has swiftly transitioned from an undergraduate engineering college to a research focused graduate-level institution, with 20 departments, 420 faculty and 7800+ students. While the departments, programs and students have expanded, the has been significant reduction of funding from Ministry of Education (MoE), Govt of India, causing severe strain on teaching and research infrastructure at NITR.
NIT Rourkela (NITR) global alumni have come together to establish NIT Rourkela Development Fund (NITR-DF), with a target to raise INR 60 crores by 2027, to support NITR’s pursuit of excellence in Academic, Research and Innovation, in a sustainable way. NITR-DF funds will be used to support Research and Development needs at NITR for the following purposes:
- Establishment of Advanced Research Center, a central facility to boost multi-disciplinary research and development.
- Supplement R&D, Lab infrastructure.
- Bootstrapping new Research and Development infrastructure.
- Seed funding student led start-ups at Foundation for Technology & Business Incubation (FTBI).
Individual alumni and alumni batches are requested to donate generously for NITR-DF and create a legacy for themselves.
The NITR-DF is governed by an independent advisory board, which is responsible to shape the strategic vision and execution roadmap, fund utilization & investments and periodic reporting. The current NITR-DF Advisory board comprises of the following directors:
