Prof. Asok Kumar Mohanty was a former Professor in the Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department and Principal of the erstwhile REC Rourkela (currently NIT Rourkela). To honor Prof Mohanty’s lasting legacy of excellence as teacher, researcher and administrator, NITR alumni and family have embarked to establish an Endowment Chair in his loving memory in the Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department at NIT Rourkela.
Endowment Goals
- Appoint eminent researcher for 3 years
- Evaluate outcomes and extend or rotate
- Salary of the endowment chair is paid by NIT Rourkela.
- Endowment chair funds Research scholars stipend & research discretionary expenses.

Prof. Asok Mohanty was an accomplished professor and a polished individual. He had inspired many metallurgy students to pursue graduate study abroad, particularly in UK. Although I did not have a chance to study under him, I had the opportunity to meet him on several occasions during my visits to our Alma mater, when he served as the Principal of NITRkl. This is an admirable efforts by alumni to raise funds to honor Prof. Asok Mohanty by creating this Endowed Chair Professorship.
